Back massage therapy after car accidentAfter a car accident, it is essential to get evaluated by a medical professional even if you do not experience symptoms right away. An initial examination will determine the state of your condition and may consist of imaging, diagnosis, specialty referrals if medically necessary and a treatment plan. The ideal medical professional to see for car accident treatment is typically a chiropractor or an orthopedic doctor depending on the injuries sustained.

If seen by a chiropractor, the initial step is the examination in which hospital records may be reviewed and imaging may be ordered, if not yet completed. At Adkore, treatment will be provided at the initial visit as well. A typical auto accident care plan could include: Chiropractic spinal adjustments, massage therapy, physical therapy and possibly spinal decompression or alternate pain management.

Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments

Spinal adjustments work well as a form of treatment for soft tissue injuries. Many people falsely assume that only high-impact accidents cause injuries but more than half of whiplash injuries occur in minor accidents. After any type of car accident, there may be herniated discs, subluxations, strained tissues and more. These and other soft tissue injuries that are not tended to right away, even when they’re subtle, can lead to long-term, chronic arthritic issues. A series of adjustments can straighten these issues out so that you’ll return to having full mobility and restoration of your spine and be free of pain.

Massage Therapy

Massage is another great therapy to receive for the treatment of soft tissue injuries sustained in a car accident. Deep tissue and trigger point massages specifically work to release tension and trigger points in the affected muscles and surrounding areas. Ultimately, this alleviates the pain, restores the range of motion and strengthens the muscles again.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy may be one of the most important types of treatment one should receive after a car accident. Initially, a physical therapy routine may start off with inflammation control then progress to strengthening, range of motion and stabilization. Once a patient is showing progress to the point of pre-injury, then the objective is to maintain the progress.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression therapy is highly recommended and positive results-proven for the treatment of herniated and bulging disc issues, especially those as a result of an impactful collision. Depending on the force your body endures during the car accident, more severe injuries can occur to the spine and discs, even over time, that create poor structural changes and abnormal pain in which medical attention should be sought after right away.

The combination of these therapies yields the best results for back pain, whiplash, headaches, related neck pain, soreness and tension. Treatment plans usually begin in the relief phase of care and are scheduled more frequently like 2-3 times a week for 4-6 weeks. Then as there is improvement, a patient will move into the corrective phase, the strengthening phase, and lastly, the wellness phase of care.

Do not second-guess an evaluation after an auto accident. You can’t lose out by having a chiropractor examine you to rule out any health concerns or potential issues whether you’re experiencing symptoms or not.
