Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a safe, non-surgical and drug free treatment that stabilizes and centralizes spinal discs to aide those suffering with disc herniation, sciatica and other back conditions. By enlarging the disc through decompression, the discs are then able to release pressure that builds on the disc and nerves, eventually allowing the herniated disc to return to normal position. View the spinal decompression video to see how it works.

Spinal decompression patients who use 25 to 50 consistent treatments have reported complete recovery from their herniated disc and pain!

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy provides pain relief and muscle relaxation to many bulging disc and herniated disc sufferers. There are over 100 different massage techniques, ranging from soft, light strokes to deep pressure massages. Pain relief via massage therapy is often short-term, but many herniated disc patients find it extremely helpful, especially in the first few weeks following the injury.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy often plays a major role in bulging or herniated disc recovery. Its methods not only offer immediate pain relief, but they also teach you how to condition your body to prevent injury. There are a variety of physical therapy techniques. Passive treatments relax your body and include deep tissue massage, hot and cold therapy, electrical stimulation (TENS), and hydrotherapy. Your physical therapy program will usually begin with passive treatments. But once your body heals, you will start active treatments that strengthen your body and prevent further pain. Your physical therapist will work with you to develop a plan that best suits you.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors can be a valuable asset to patients suffering from a herniated or bulging disc. The doctors of chiropractic in both our Sanford and Deltona clinics are trained to diagnose and treat misalignment and dysfunction in the spine. There are also many chiropractic techniques and treatment protocols that can help relieve pain and muscle hypertonicity associated with intervertebral disc disorders. Chiropractic treatment is one of the most popular alternative treatment methods for back pain, including pain caused by a herniated disk.

Acupuncture does not attempt to treat your bulging or herniated disc itself, but instead focuses on pain relief. Acupuncture involves several thin needles inserted into the skin at various pressure points. Many back pain patients have experienced a great deal of relief from acupuncture treatments, but several treatments are often necessary to maintain the desired results.

Homeopathic Injections

Adkore acupuncture practitioners in our Sanford and Deltona offices perform subcutaneous injections of FDA-approved homeopathic remedies for stubborn conditions, especially pain, not responding well to acupuncture, herbal medicine and exercise.

What is a Herniated Disc?

A herniated disc (sometimes called a bulging disc) occurs when the inner portion of the disk pushes into the spinal canal through a rupture in the outer protective layer of the disk. A herniated disk can result in a great deal of pain or weakness that can radiate from the back to the legs and arms. Symptoms of a herniated disc include:

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Sciatic pain - most commonly experienced at the outside of the thigh, the lower leg and/or the foot. Sciatic pain is a shooting pain that radiates down the leg and is a common experience with herniated discs. Patients commonly report an electric shock type of symptom.
  • Arm Pain
  • Muscle Pain
